Media coverage of Chip & PIN vulnerabilities
Saar Drimer, Ross Anderson, and I have been investigating the security of Chip & PIN terminals. We found significant failings almost everywhere we looked.

Our results are now public, and will be featured on BBC Newsnight, 10:30pm, tonight, BBC2. We have summarized our findings in a brief press release and FAQ. The full details are in our academic paper.

The press is starting to pick up our story, and it is discussed on ZDNet and the BBC wesbite. More media coverage is expected.

And last week, I just got pamphlets from my bank and credit card saying how awesome the new Chip and PIN system that's rolling out next month is!

The crooks think it's awesome too. I got an email from a dodgy guy who wanted me to help him make a skimmer suitable for Canadian Chip and PIN machines. I obviously told him no.

And get this! Just an hour ago, I got a call from my credit card company, asking if I would participate in a survey about Chip and PIN. I told her I was a security researcher, and some colleagues of mine just put out a paper giving weaknesses in the Chip and PIN system. I told her she should write down that I have concerns about the security of the system, from a technically informed perspective. She seemed happy with that response.
